This week, we released our 2024 Hurricane Preparedness Guide to help Floridians get ready for what is expected to be a very active Atlantic Hurricane Season.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently released their annual hurricane season forecast for the Atlantic Basin, anticipating 17 to 25 named storms, 8 to 13 hurricanes and 4 to 7 major hurricanes.
If you’re a lifelong Floridian, you understand the threat that powerful storms pose. For the hundreds of thousands of individuals who are new to the Sunshine State though, they may be less familiar with the dangerous threat of a storm strike.
Our 2024 Hurricane Preparedness Guide contains information for both new Floridians and those who have experienced many storm seasons—from information about tropical weather events to preparedness tips and even how to avoid falling victim to storm-related scams.
Tips detailed in the guide include:
- Know evacuation routes and shelter locations;
- Stock up on enough food, water and emergency supplies for the entire household for at least seven days;
- Check that storm-related products are hurricane-proof or impact-proof before purchasing; and
- Beware of solicitors using high-pressure tactics or sharing limited information when soliciting work or charity donations.
Our guide also contains a hurricane supply checklist. I encourage Floridians to take advantage of the upcoming Disaster Preparedness Tax Holiday, from June 1-14, to purchase needed supplies tax-free, and to get ready early.
By making preparations now, you and your family can weather any potential storms.
Stay Safe, Florida.
