This week, we announced the third consecutive report with a drop in statewide drug-related deaths. Along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, we released the Florida Medical Examiners Drugs Identified in Deceased Persons 2023 Interim Report.
The report shows that total drug-related deaths decreased by 7%, opioid-caused deaths decreased by 10% and deaths caused by fentanyl decreased 10% in the first six months of 2023.
While this is encouraging news, the drug death toll is still far too high due to Mexican fentanyl entering the country from the open Southwest border.
That is why we are waging war against the opioid crisis on multiple fronts: by leading the way in removing and seizing deadly fentanyl from our streets thanks to our brave law enforcement officers, providing critical resources for those struggling with addiction and holding the Biden administration accountable in federal court.
We must continue to combat this crisis and take proactive steps to help those suffering with addiction.
To learn more about the threats of opioid misuse and fentanyl, I encourage Floridians to check out DoseOfRealityFL.com, our One Pill Can Kill webpage and Fast Facts on Fentanyl toolkit.

By fighting the opioid crisis, we can save lives and build a Stronger, Safer Florida.
