Informing you about deceptive tactics used to rip off Floridians is vital in our fight to stop scams and prevent fraud. This week, I launched a webpage dedicated to keeping consumers up-to-date about emerging scams and steps they can take to avoid fraud.
Shortly after taking office, I launched our Consumer Alert program and since then we have issued dozens of warnings covering topics running the gamut from the one-ring phone scam to moving scams and odometer fraud.

CONSUMER ALERT: Beware of Charity Scams in Wake of Devastating Earthquakes in Puerto Rico
Attorney General Ashley Moody issued a Consumer Alert to warn Floridians of the potential for charity scams in the wake of Puerto Rico’s devastating earthquakes. Over the past couple of weeks, Puerto Rico has been experiencing earthquakes and aftershocks, leaving a massive amount of destruction. Relief efforts are underway to assist the victims of these tragedies. Generous Floridians want to help, but should take steps to make sure donations go to the intended cause.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Over the past few years, Puerto Rico has been besieged by natural disasters and the recent earthquakes are creating dangerous conditions for Americans living on the island and those traveling there to assist with the recovery efforts. Floridians want to help, but before you give, please take a few steps to ensure your donation is going to those who truly need it and not a scammer exploiting the situation to steal from generous donors.” Read More
Attorney General Moody Selected to Lead National Human Trafficking Committee
Attorney General Ashley Moody will serve as Co-Chair of the National Association of Attorneys General Human Trafficking Committee. The committee will investigate and promote best practices for combating trafficking at a state level, including law enforcement and prosecution strategies, educational outreach efforts and alliances with partner agencies and non-governmental organizations. NAAG is made up of all 56 attorneys general from the United States and territories, and facilitates the collaboration and execution of national bipartisan efforts among attorneys general.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “I am honored to lead attorneys general across the nation to end human trafficking. Human trafficking is a scourge on society and fighting to end it in Florida has been one of my top priorities since taking office. Attorney General Moody Appoints Anne Corcoran to Florida’s Commission on the Status of Women
Attorney General Ashley Moody, while participating in a Teach a Girl to Lead program in Bay County, announced the appointment of Anne Corcoran to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. Corcoran is a distinguished corporate attorney and is active in charitable and community activities—founding a liberal arts charter school where she continues to provide pro bono legal and board services. The FCSW is a non-partisan group with a focus on raising awareness and celebrating the contributions and successes of all Floridians. Additionally, the FCSW provides a collaborative platform for those seeking information on issues that affect women, girls and their families in Florida.Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “I am proud to appoint Anne Corcoran to this commission. Anne will bring a strong perspective to the group, from both the legal and educational standpoint. This week, Attorney General Ashley Moody joined Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida Cabinet members and state legislators in kicking off the 2020 Florida Legislative Session. Attorney General Moody attended the opening sessions of the Florida Senate and House, as well as the Governor’s State of the State Address.
