While Florida has enjoyed decades of declining crime rates statewide, some violent offenses are drastically on the rise in certain areas of our state. I am hopeful this increase in the award amount will incentivize more Floridians with knowledge about murders and homicides to anonymously come forward and work with us to solve crimes.
The Florida Association of Crime Stoppers has a record of successfully providing law enforcement with accurate tips leading to arrests in our state. Over the past year, thousands of citizens reported tips through Florida Crime Stoppers leading to more than 2,000 arrests.
This new reward increase is just the latest enhancement by my office, and Florida Crime Stoppers, to the statewide anonymous reporting program. In October of last year, I joined the crime-fighting organization to announce a statewide phone number for reporting crime anonymously—making Florida the first state in the nation to move to a uniform reporting phone number. Now, citizens are able to provide tips about unsolved cases from anywhere in the state by dialing ** TIPS (8477).

Attorney General Ashley Moody, Sen. Danny Burgess and Rep. Colleen Burton announced legislation to strengthen senior protection in Florida. Attorney General Moody, Sen. Burgess and Rep. Burton worked closely with the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar to craft this legislation. With more than 5 million seniors living in Florida, the state enjoys a stellar reputation as an ideal place to retire. Sadly, criminals often concoct schemes to abuse positions of trust to isolate and exploit seniors in an effort to siphon retirement funds, steal inheritances or even neglect their physical needs.

NAAG Names Attorney General Moody as Co-Chair of Elder Justice Committee
The National Association of Attorneys General named Attorney General Ashley Moody Co-Chair of the NAAG Elder Justice Committee. Established in 2018, the Elder Justice Committee strives to assist state attorneys general in combating elder abuse and fraud through educational programs and resource sharing and development.Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Senior protection is one of my top priorities as Florida’s Attorney General, and I am honored to share our fraud-fighting strategies with my colleagues from across the country as Co-Chair of NAAG’s Elder Justice Committee and work with other states to develop innovative programs to further protect older Floridians.” Read More

This week, Attorney General Ashley Moody announced a near-doubling in the amount of reward money for those who submit anonymous tips on homicide cases that result in an arrest. Attorney General Moody made the announcement at roundtable events in Orlando and Tampa, where law enforcement and legislative leaders participated in the crime-fighting discussions.
