This week, I convened the final meeting of the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse of 2019. The meeting focused on the recovery process and innovative programs to promote and sustain long-term recovery for Floridians struggling with Opioid Use Disorder.
The meeting highlighted barriers to recovery, support systems for patients, Medication Assisted Treatment and effective peer recovery strategies. Task Force members learned about an innovative program reducing repeat opioid overdoses in Duval County. They also received an update from the Treatment and Recovery Subcommittee, listened to a presentation about Florida Blue’s addiction prevention program and heard from an individual thriving in long-term recovery.

We have made important advances this year in our fight to end the opioid crisis. When I took office last January, Florida didn’t have a statewide group examining the opioid crisis and developing a comprehensive strategy to fight back. Not only am I proud to now chair this vital team of experts, the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse is meeting regularly and acting with a sense of urgency.
Additionally, our office has made important strides in the state’s massive litigation to hold opioid distributors, manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies responsible for their roles in fueling this deadly crisis. Additionally, our Statewide Prosecutors continue to work with law enforcement to stop the flow of deadly fentanyl into Florida.
We are also enlisting more Floridians in this fight. In September, I launched Florida’s first ever statewide resource to assist Floridians in the struggle to end opioid abuse. Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse Meeting Focuses on Recovery
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody, Chair of the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse, in Miami convened the group’s third meeting. The meeting, held at Miami Dade College, focused on the recovery process and innovative programs to promote and sustain long term recovery for Floridians struggling with Opioid Use Disorder.Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Today we heard from medical professionals, recovery specialists and a woman who struggled for years to overcome a powerful drug addiction, about how we can better serve those struggling with Opioid Use Disorder. Attorney General Moody Convenes Year End Meeting of Statewide Council on Human Trafficking
Attorney General Ashley Moody convened the quarterly meeting of the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking in West Palm Beach. The meeting, chaired by Attorney General Moody, involved state government officials, law enforcement leaders and other representatives from across Florida to discuss progress in the fight against human trafficking. The Council focused on the development of new human trafficking trainings for law enforcement officers as well as age-appropriate awareness material for schools.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “The scourge that is human trafficking will not be eliminated by everyone working alone. These Statewide Council meetings are extremely productive by bringing law enforcement, government, legislators and field experts involved in the fight against trafficking together so that we can implement a cohesive plan to combat this evil.” Read More
Attorney General Moody Applauds Congress for Passage of TRACED Act
Attorney General Ashley Moody thanks Congress for passing the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act. The TRACED Act, passed by the U.S. Senate Thursday, is designed to reduce the number of illegal robocalls and stop spoofing—the practice of using technology to disguise a caller’s phone number. The Act will now go to President Donald J. Trump for his signature.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Passing this Act is vital step in our fight to stop illegal robocalls and the scams that often accompany them nationwide. We must stop the inundation of robocalls that has been the norm for far too long. This legislation will also give us better tools for going against the practice of spoofing so we can better protect consumers.” Read More

Attorney General Moody with council member Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister at the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking meeting. Sheriff Chronister is a fierce partner in the fight to end human trafficking in Florida. His county, Hillsborough, will host the Super Bowl in 2021.

Attorney General Moody stopped by the Capitol Police Holiday Party this week. The attorney general is thankful for all law enforcement across the state and hopes that all law enforcement officers are able to spend well-deserved time with loved ones this holiday season.
