My office has been working nonstop to fight price gouging, scams and fraud related to the current health crisis. As the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic downturn deepen, Florida is experiencing an increase in Medicaid enrollment.
More than four million Floridians now rely on Medicaid for health coverage, and there is more opportunity than ever before for fraudsters to take advantage of this program. We owe it to the citizens of this great state to do everything within our power to protect the integrity of this taxpayer-funded program, and that's exactly what my Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is doing.
This week, I hosted a Medicaid fraud symposium webinar with state and federal agencies focused on the recent enrollment increase and COVID-19 related scams and fraud. We also discussed ways states and federal agencies can partner to protect taxpayer money and stop fraud and identity theft as this health crisis continues.
Our MFCU is staffed with talented analysts, attorneys, auditors and investigators who track down Medicaid fraud and bring criminals to justice.
Since becoming Attorney General, we have nearly 90 suspects behind bars and secured more than $54 million in settlements and judgments as a result of our Medicaid fraud investigations.
Rest assured—we will not tolerate it here in Florida. We will continue to aggressively pursue fraudsters and seek to recover taxpayer funds.
If you suspect Medicaid fraud, report it to my office by calling 1(866) 9NO-SCAM or send us a tip online at MyFloridaLegal.com.
By working together to fight fraud and protect taxpayer money, we can build a Stronger, Safer Florida.
