AG Moody Leads Coalition of State AGs in Support of Pam Bondi’s Senate Confirmation for U.S. Attorney General
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody is leading, along with South Carolina, a multistate effort urging the U.S. Senate to confirm former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the 87th U.S. Attorney General. Bondi served as Florida’s first female attorney general for eight years and worked as a prosecutor for nearly two decades. Attorney General Moody, along with 27 other attorneys general and two attorney general-elects, is highlighting many of Bondi’s trailblazing accomplishments in Florida, including the shuttering of pill mills, zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking, elimination of the backlog of unprocessed sexual assault kits, billions recovered through the National Mortgage Settlement, and much more.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Pam Bondi is a proven leader and fighter for justice. After her work over nearly two decades of prosecuting murderers and standing up for crime victims, she became Florida’s first female Attorney General and took the fight straight to the drug smugglers, human traffickers and serial rapists. Attorney General Bondi shut down pill mills, put human traffickers behind bars and fought to eliminate the backlog of untested sexual assault kits – to bring predators to justice and some sense of closure to victims of rape. Her stellar record as an attorney general, state prosecutor and fighter for justice has prepared her to serve as the nation’s 87th U.S. Attorney General and we look forward to a swift, successful confirmation.”
Florida voters first elected Bondi to serve as Attorney General in 2010. They re-elected Bondi in 2014. Last month, President-Elect Donald Trump selected Bondi as the nominee for U.S. Attorney General.
In a letter sent to Senate leadership today, Attorney General Moody, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and the coalition write, “As Florida Attorney General, General Bondi spent eight years working tirelessly to protect the health and safety of the people of Florida. During the worst days of the opioid crisis, she demonstrated extraordinary leadership, working with the Florida Legislature to shut down pill mills, initiating litigation to hold bad actors accountable, and taking many other actions designed to curb drug abuse, including championing bans on synthetic drugs. She was also a fierce advocate against human trafficking, leading efforts to increase tools for prosecutors to protect victims and hold traffickers accountable.” Attorney General Moody and the coalition also highlight former Attorney General Bondi’s work with other states: “we also benefited from her leadership on numerous multi-state efforts, including the $56 billion National Mortgage Settlement.”
Attorney General Moody is joined by the attorneys general from the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.
