Criminal Punishment Code Task Force

Introduction

The 15-member Criminal Punishment Code Task Force was created as a result of Chapter 2019-167, Laws of Florida, which was signed and passed into law in 2019. The Task Force was formed “for the purpose of reviewing, evaluating, and making recommendations regarding sentencing for and ranking of noncapital felony offenses under the Criminal Punishment Code.” The Criminal Punishment Code is codified in Chapter 921, Florida Statutes.

Task Force members include attorneys, educators, judges, law enforcement officers, legislators, as well as representatives from the Florida Department of Corrections, and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

The Task Force was responsible for producing a report, due by June 30, 2020, discussing the issues considered by the Task Force, along with recommendations for legislative changes. The Task Force dissolved upon submission of the report.
