TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody today appointed Melanie Bonanno to Florida’s Commission on the Status of Women. Bonanno is a notable attorney, currently serving as the Director of Employment Law for Publix Super Markets, a mother of three and is the 2014 recipient of the Most Powerful & Influential Woman Award by the National Diversity Council. The FCSW is a non-partisan group with a focus on raising awareness and celebrating the contributions and successes of all Floridians. Additionally, the FCSW provides a collaborative platform for those seeking information on issues that affect women, girls and their families in Florida.

Her strong legal background, experience serving on several boards of directors and juggling a high-paced career as a mom of three will prove invaluable to the Commission. Bonanno’s more than 20 years of legal experience began as an attorney at FordHarrison LLP in 1999. From that firm, Bonanno joined Publix’s legal team in 2003. Bonanno started working in her current role as Director of Employment Law in 2016, where she leads a team of attorneys, managers and investigators who are responsible for all employment-related legal work at Publix. Bonanno earned a law degree with honors from the University of Florida College of Law.
In addition to her legal career, Bonanno serves on the Publix PAC Board of Directors, the Enterprise Florida Board of Directors, the Board of the Emergency Care Help Organization of Brandon and the Board of Angels for Change, a non-profit dedicated to helping children gain access to life-saving medicine.
The FCSW is a nonpartisan board, statutorily created in 1991, consisting of 22 appointed members and is administratively housed in the Office of the Attorney General. FCSW’s mandate is to study and make recommendations to the Governor, Cabinet and Legislature on issues affecting women in Florida.
