This massive commitment of funds brings the total monies secured through our determined litigation efforts to more than $3 billion. These monies will be paid out over the next two decades and used for treatment and prevention in areas hit hardest by drug abuse.
What we have accomplished over the past few years is no small feat. Florida is leading the nation in legal efforts to hold each of the defendants accountable for the unique roles they played in this terrible public health epidemic.
Before taking office, I vowed to seek accountability for those responsible for helping create this crisis, and now I am excited to report that we have successfully accomplished this vital mission. With these funds, we will begin to turn the tide in the fight to end the opioid crisis and save lives.

Attorney General Moody Secures More Than $140 Million for Floridians and Taxpayers Nationwide
Attorney General Ashley Moody announced a $141 million multistate agreement with Intuit, Inc., maker of the widely used online tax-preparation software TurboTax, for allegedly deceiving consumers into paying for tax services that should have been free. As a result of the multistate agreement, consumers across the nation will receive $141 million in restitution from Intuit. In addition, Intuit must suspend TurboTax’s “free, free, free” ad campaign that allegedly lured customers with misleading promises of free, online tax-preparation services, when, in fact, many customers were directed to products that were not free. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have signed on to the agreement. Under the agreement, eligible Florida consumers are estimated to receive a total of more than $10.3 million.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “As a result of this multistate investigation, Intuit will have to pay more than $140 million in restitution for allegedly advertising free tax-preparation products and then directing many consumers to pay for upgrades in the service. Not only have we secured millions for those who were misled into paying for services that they could have obtained for free, we also stopped these deceptive practices both now and for future consumers of Intuit products.” Read More

Attorney General Ashley Moody is calling on U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to terminate the creation of a disinformation board that attacks Americans’ First Amendment rights. Along with 18 other attorneys general, Attorney General Moody argues that the proposed Disinformation Governance Board will hurt the constitutional freedom to speak freely, debate and disagree with the government—freedoms that state attorneys general are responsible for defending.Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “President Biden is attempting to confuse and distort legitimate criticism and the perspective of American citizens. A federal court in North Florida issued a ruling allowing Attorney General Ashley Moody’s challenge to President Joe Biden’s catch and release immigration policy to move forward. In a blistering order denying the federal government’s motion to dismiss, United States District Judge T. Attorney General Moody Leads National Group Working to End Human Trafficking
Attorney General Ashley Moody is leading a national committee focused on anti-human trafficking policies and services for survivors. The National Association of Attorneys General named Attorney General Moody Co-Chair of the NAAG Human Trafficking Committee. The national committee provides a forum for state attorneys general to collaborate on issues related to human trafficking and promote best practices to combat trafficking and assist survivors.Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Ending human trafficking in Florida is one of my top priorities, but we can’t achieve this lofty goal by working within our state borders alone. This week, Attorney General Ashley Moody announced the end of the state's historic opioid litigation following a commitment of more than $680 million from Walgreens. Through determined litigation efforts, Attorney General Moody secured more than $3 billion for opioid abatement throughout the state. During the announcement, Attorney General Moody thanked her Chief Deputy Attorney General John Guard and the state's attorneys for their years of hard work on the complex case.
