Protecting consumers is a major focus of our office and over the past year, we have launched several major initiatives to bolster our fraud-fighting efforts, such as: the new Consumer Alert Program, our intra-agency Senior Protection Team and the NO SCAM price gouging reporting app—to help protect consumers during natural disasters, like hurricanes.
These are just a few of the innovative steps we are taking to better protect Floridians from fraud and prevent scams—and I am proud to report back to you that these tactics are paying off.
Since January of 2019, our Consumer Protection Division has recovered more than $153 million through settlements and court-ordered relief for consumers nationwide, and we are just getting started.

Attorney General Moody Highlights Senior Protection Efforts at U.S. DOJ Elder Justice Summit
Attorney General Ashley Moody announced more than $2 million in recoveries and savings for Florida seniors at the U.S. Department of Justice Summit on Fighting for Elder Justice. Attorney General Moody joined U.S. Attorney General William Barr at the summit in Sun City Center, Florida—where most of the residents are 60 or older.

Attorney General Moody Highlights Consumer Alert Program in Recognition of National CP Week
Attorney General Ashley Moody is encouraging Floridians to educate themselves about the latest scams this National Consumer Protection Week. Last year, Attorney General Moody launched a Consumer Alert Program to inform Floridians about emerging scams and the latest tricks used by scammers to defraud Floridians. Since the program’s inception, Attorney General Moody has issued more than 30 alerts to help Floridians avoid scams, make restitution claims and report fraud.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Our Consumer Alert Program is designed to help keep Floridians informed about emerging scams and the different ways new technology is being misused to deceive Floridians. As a former prosecutor and judge, I have learned that one of the best tools we have to stop fraud is to empower consumers with the information they need to identify scams and what to do if they are targeted. Attorney General Moody Joins Multistate Coalition in Defending States’ Rights to Regulate the Rising Cost of Prescription Drugs
Attorney General Ashley Moody joined a multistate coalition of 38 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court supporting states’ rights to regulate and address the rising cost of prescription drugs. In Rutledge v. Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, Attorney General Moody and the other attorneys general argue that in order to protect the well-being of consumers, states must retain the authority to regulate Pharmacy Benefit Managers. This brief supports the position that federal law does not prevent states from regulating PBMs. The brief argues that regulation of the prescription drug market, including PBMs, is a critical tool for states to protect residents and address the access and affordability of prescription drugs.Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Maintaining control over our state’s prescription drug market is important in keeping healthcare costs affordable for Floridians. Attorney General Moody Convenes the First Statewide Council on Human Trafficking Meeting Following Super Bowl LIV
Attorney General Ashley Moody convened the first Statewide Council on Human Trafficking meeting in Tallahassee following Super Bowl LIV. The meeting, chaired by Attorney General Moody, involved state government officials, law enforcement leaders and other representatives from across Florida to discuss progress in the fight against human trafficking. It is the Council’s first meeting of the year.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Our statewide council, along with our partners, worked hard to stop human trafficking ahead of this year’s Super Bowl. Twenty-two victims of trafficking were rescued, including children. While this is encouraging news, our work will not stop. Florida will be hosting several large-scale events, including next year’s Super Bowl, and will be the target of traffickers to come. We will fight hard against this evil to protect Floridians and rescue victims.” Read More

This week, Attorney General Ashley Moody partnered with the U.S. Department of Justice to host the Keeping Seniors Safe Summit in Sun City Center. Last year, the Attorney General’s Seniors vs. Crime Program recovered more than $1.7 million for seniors—on top of more than $153 million recovered by Attorney General Moody’s Consumer Protection Division.
