Office of Inspector General
The Attorney General’s Office of the Inspector General enhances public trust in government by ensuring all the employees and services under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General maintain the highest standards of integrity and accountability through audits and investigations. This valuable role allows the Attorney General’s Office to operate efficiently and without fraud or abuse.
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is established in each state agency to provide a central point for coordination of and responsibility for activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency in government. [Section 20.055, Florida Statutes]
The OIG investigates allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, misconduct, and related violations of the law involving individuals employed by the Attorney General's Office.
The OIG conducts audits, which are independent appraisals designed to examine and evaluate the department programs and services. This independent, objective assurance and consulting activity is designed to add value and improve the Office of Attorney General’s operations.
Whistle-blower Protection
The Florida Whistle-blower’s Act, Florida Statute 112.3187, protects those who report violations of law on the part of a public employer or independent contractor that create a substantial and specific danger to the public’s health, safety, or welfare. It is intended to prevent retaliatory action against any person who discloses information to an appropriate agency alleging improper use of governmental office, gross waste of funds, or any other abuse or gross neglect of duty on the part of an agency, public officer, or employee.
