The National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community, held annually since 1985, is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Office of the Attorney General to address the disproportionate number of African-Americans who are under the supervision of the criminal justice system. The agenda is designed to showcase successful programs and promote a positive exchange of ideas on the subject. Focal points include general session and luncheon presentations by motivational speakers, and national and state leaders. Workshops, which include a special tract for youth, will highlight notable efforts to curb youth violence and numerous crime prevention program models that are transferrable to their communities. Over 2500 participants attend the conference annually. Participants include law enforcement personnel, local elected officials, school administrators and educators, victim service professionals, labor and employment relations personnel, church and community leaders, citizens and youth-service organizations, corrections professionals and other interested citizens from the general public.
