Mission

The mission of the Office of Inspector General is to enhance public trust in government.

Responsibilities

The role of the Inspector General is to ensure that all the employees and services under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General maintain the highest standards of integrity and accountability through audits and investigations.

The Office of Inspector General conducts audits, which are independent appraisals designed to examine and evaluate the department programs and services. An inherent objective when performing audits is to review and evaluate internal controls necessary to ensure fiscal accountability.

The Office of Inspector General investigates allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, misconduct, and related violations of the law involving individuals employed by the Attorney General's Office.

The Inspector General serves a valuable role in ensuring that the Office of the Attorney General operates efficiently and without fraud or abuse, thus ensuring that the public maintains the highest degree of trust and confidence in the Office of the Attorney General.

Whistle-blower Protection

Florida Statute 112.3187, also referred to as the Florida Whistle-blower’s Act, provides protection to those who report to an appropriate agency violations of law on the part of a public employer or independent contractor that create a substantial and specific danger to the public’s health, safety, or welfare. It is intended to prevent retaliatory action against any person who discloses information to an appropriate agency alleging improper use of governmental office, gross waste of funds, or any other abuse or gross neglect of duty on the part of an agency, public officer, or employee.
