TALLAHASSEE, FL – A Volusia County man is in custody tonight after investigators with Attorney General Bill McCollum’s CyberCrime Unit discovered his possession of multiple images of child pornography. Authorities with the CyberCrime Unit and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ivan Zapata, who will be charged with possession of child pornography.
Investigators with the CyberCrime unit discovered Zapata’s possession of child pornography during an undercover online investigation. The images were traced back to Zapata’s computer and a search warrant was executed at his Deltona residence, where several images of child pornography were discovered. Zapata, 41, admitted that he knowingly possessed the pornography found at his residence. Investigators seized a computer which will undergo forensic analysis for additional images.
Zapata is currently being booked into the Volusia County Jail and will be charged with two counts of possession of child pornography. If convicted on all charges, Zapata faces up to 10 years in prison. A booking photograph can be obtained from the Volusia County Jail after the booking process has been completed.
The CyberCrime Unit's mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The unit does this by working cooperatively on a statewide basis with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources and expertise while preventing the spread of these crimes through education and community awareness. Zapata’s arrest is the 64th made by officers with the unit since its inception in October 2005. The CyberCrime Unit is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) of Central Florida, as is the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
