TALLAHASSEE, FL - Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that a Lake County employee has been arrested on charges of child pornography possession. Barry James Landstedt, a facilities coordinator for Lake County, was taken into custody this morning by law enforcement officers with the Attorney General’s CyberCrime Unit and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators with the CyberCrime Unit discovered Landstedt’s possession of child pornography during a routine undercover investigation. A search warrant was executed at Landstedt’s Fruitland Park home this morning and investigators seized his computer. At least two videos were located on the computer, one of which appeared to be of a child no more than 11 years of age being sexually abused. Landstedt, 53, admitted to downloading and viewing images of child pornography.
The computer will undergo additional forensic analysis to determine whether any other images of child pornography are present. It is still unknown if the children in the images are at risk or have been rescued since the original images were created. Investigators will review all the images found in Landstedt's computer to try to identify the child victims.
Landstedt is currently being charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, although additional charges could be added once the forensic analysis of the computer has been completed. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison on each count of possession of child pornography. Landstedt will be booked into the Lake County Jail.
The CyberCrime Unit and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office are both members of the Central Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
